Follow this advice to keep your hair shining bright and healthy.
1. Take some time out and brush your hair. Count to 100 while brushing your hair with a good quality brush starting from root to tip. This old wife's tale is actually beneficial as it helps spreads your hair’s natural oils making the hair shinier, more manageable and less likely to break. With daily brushing you might even be able to cut back on some of the hair products.
2. Choose your shampoo carefully. Shampoos are filled with toxic ingredients despite the word “natural” being plastered across the bottle. These chemicals which are normally used to formulate the scents, colours and cleaning agents can damage hair leading to the purchase of additional products to fix that damage. Look for organic or shampoos tailored to your needs.
3. Buddy up with protein.
Increase your hair's inner strength by packing your diet with protein. Protein helps reduce hair frizz and breakages, meaning that your dreams of long hair are close at hand! The best food to boost protein levels are eggs, meat, fish and cheese. These all contain complex carbohydrates and minerals that help build up the keratin in your hair.
4. Break up with bad habits.
Smoking, drinking, bad diets and lack of exercise do not help in your cause for healthy and beautiful looking hair. Plainly put, smoking starves your hair of oxygen and drinking dehydrates it, both resulting it dull, brittle and lifeless hair. A bad diet and lack of exercise is just unhealthy any way you look at it!
5. Give your hair a break.
Let's be real, we all love our straighteners, curling irons and hair dryers. Unfortunately, these miracle styling tools are the main culprit for damaged hair! Every now and then give your hair a break, switch up your routine and go the day with a styled plait, messy bun or classic pigtail. However, if you really can't leave the house without touching one, at least be sure to use an anti-frizz serum to create a moisture barrier which will act as a heat protectant.
